Mrs Palteys Kitchen
Mrs. Tabitha Paltey faithfully served as headmaid so well that when her mistress died Mrs. Paltey was left the little guest house in back of the estate. The will said it was so “Tabby could retire in peace for all the peace she brought me”. It was nice for the first few days but then Mrs. Paltey got lonely. She invited the cleaning girls from the house up to tea. The next day she invited Mrs. Jocasta from next door and the head butler from down the street. Before long, if a Central Falls servant got time off they would swing by Mrs. Paltey’s Kitchen. She keeps the kettle on at all hours and there is no better place to learn the gossip of the big houses.
